The Xylan® series of coatings, produced by Whitford Worldwide, offers some of the best-performing PTFE-based coatings available. Xylan coatings are dry-film lubricants that can operate continuously at extreme temperatures where traditional fluid lubricants might become solid (in extreme cold) or burn (in extreme heat).
The Xylan coating series is extensive, offering a wide range of property combinations. Operating temperatures range from -420°F to +550°F.
Here, Dave Arney, COO of Advanced Industrial Coatings, Inc., discusses a few of the many options.
Xylan 1010
Xylan 1010 offers the widest operating temperature range of almost any fluoropolymer coating along with nearly unbeatable nonstick properties at extreme temperatures.
Xylan 1010 can withstand continuous operation at temperatures from -420°F to +500°F. The coating can also withstand intermittent operation at temperatures up to 550°F.
Whitford Worldwide offers a low-VOC version of Xylan 1010.
Xylan 1014
Xylan 1014 is a fastener-class coating with more bonding resin for even more hardness and abrasion resistance. We frequently recommend Xylan 1014 coatings for applications where extreme wear resistance is an issue in addition to extreme cold or extreme heat.
Xylan 1014 also offers excellent nonstick and chemical resistance properties. It is one of the most frequently selected coatings for subsea applications.
Xylan 1425
Xylan 1425 can provide a lubricated surface while bearing pressure of up to 150,000 psi. It has a continuous operating temperature of up to 375°F, and can operate at these temperatures even while exposed to extremely harsh chemical environments.
Xylan 1440
Xylan 1440 is specifically designed to withstand exposure to automotive fluids while continuously operating at temperatures up to 400°F.
Xylan XLR
Xylan XLR is a food-grade coating that can operate continuously at temperatures up to 500°F while maintaining release properties up to 50 times longer than other industrial release coatings. This coating sets the standard in durability and is a great choice for production facilities looking to save costs in the long-term.

Whitford offers an extensive line of Xylan coating products, and nearly all of them offer excellent temperature resistance. One caveat is that for some of the coating, extreme heat may cause some discoloration, but will not affect the functionality of the coating.
